U.S., Brazil set to begin 2014 International Tournament of Brasilia

Four-team event also features China PR and Argentina

(Dec. 9, 2014) - The 2014 International Tournament of Brasilia/Torneio Internacional de Brasilia Futebol Feminino begins Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasilia.

(Dec. 9, 2014)The 2014 International Tournament of Brasilia/Torneio Internacional de Brasilia Futebol Feminino begins Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasilia. The four-team tournament runs from Dec. 10 through Dec. 21.

The U.S. Women's National Team opens the tournament against China PR (kickoff: 4:20 p.m. ET), followed by matches with Brazil (Dec. 14, 4 p.m. ET) and Argentina (Dec. 17, 4:20 p.m. ET).

Brazil begins the tournament Wednesday against Argentina (7 p.m. ET) before facing the U.S. Dec. 14 and concluding the semifinals Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. against China PR.

Two Boston Breakers will be with their respective teams during the tournament. Reigning National Women’s Soccer League Goalkeeper of the Year Alyssa Naeher is one of 24 players on the U.S. roster, while Andressa Alves is one of 23 players suiting up for Brazil. Andressa Alves recently returned from Japan where she won the International Women’s Club Championship with Sao Jose, beating Arsenal, 2-0, in the finals.

The International Tournament of Brazil is a round-robin format and culminates Dec. 21 with the championship and third-place matches. The U.S. is the highest FIFA-ranked team in the tournament. The No. 1 team in the world is followed by Brazil (No. 6), China PR (No. 14), and Argentina (No. 37).
