Lisa De Vanna named to Australian Women's National Team for Asian Cup

May 7, 2014 - The Matildas’ interim head coach, Alen Stajcic, has put together his squad of 23 players ahead of the Asian Cup in Vietnam, and his side includes Boston Breakers striker Lisa De Vanna.

De Vanna was part of the Matildas’ Asian Cup winning squad four years ago in China. During the Asian Cup in 2010, De Vanna recorded a goal in a 3-1 win over South Korea in the first game of the group stage.

This year's Asian Cup is set to take place in Vietnam. The games will be played at Thống Nhất Stadium in Hồ Chí Minh City, and also at Gò Đậu Stadium in Thủ Dầu Một. Australia is part of Group A, also consisting of Vietnam, Japan, and Jordan. The "Matilidas" are scheduled to play Japan May 14, Jordan May 16, and Vietnam May 18. Depending on where they finish in their group, Australia could potentially qualify for the semifinals on May 22. The tournament also serves as qualification for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

This year with the Breakers, De Vanna has started in three of the team's four games and has recorded a total of 298 minutes combined in those four games. She is one of four National Women's Soccer League players on the Matildas roster for the tournament.
