DESCRIPTION:

The Boston Breakers hire 4-6 full-time student interns per season to assist in the operation of Women’s Professional Soccer game operations, as well as ongoing front office operations in the areas of sales, marketing, communications, logistics and team administration.

Internships are geared towards students who are interested in a career in the sports industry.  They are designed so that interns rotate through a variety of different fields of front office endeavor during the season.   At the end of a successful internship, each student will have had a varied and  “de-glamorized” experience in a sports management setting, which should assist the student in articulating and directing their short and long-term career goals as they seek their first full-time job in the industry.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

All internships vary according to the talents of the student and the needs of the teams. Typical internship duties may include (but are not limited to):

  • Management of Game Day promotions & fan experience – primary responsibility for a functional area of the Breakers game day experience, such as Fan Zone, halftime, VIP hospitality, etc.
  • Ticket Operations – assistance with back-end ticket software and fulfillment, as well as game day box office and Will Call management
  • Grassroots Marketing – evaluating opportunities and representing the team at community events
  • Communications & website – assistance with social media, official website, press conferences, stadium press box and other media opportunities
  • Merchandising – ordering, inventory, fulfillment and game-day/mail order sale of team merchandise
  • General administration – various tasks in both the front office and team locker room relating to the smooth and efficient operation of the business and maintenance of a professional training environment for the club
  • Sales – phone calls and assisting in presentations for season ticket and youth soccer partner accounts.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a strong work ethic and a desire to build a career in professional sports & entertainment
  • Excellent written & verbal communications abilities
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Preference is given to college students currently in their junior and senior years in a sports  management degree program

Description:

Specific Duties:

Communications interns will assist Boston Breakers Communications Manager Ryan Wood with a number of tasks, including but not limited to: writing press releases, writing postgame reports and pregame previews, writing updates on our reserves team and college academy team, assisting with media inquiries by setting up interviews between reporters and players at practice, assisting on game day operations in the press box (running social media, tracking stats for the team and league, providing media members with material such as game notes and stats), and helping to coordinate postgame press conferences. The internship requires a consistent commitment throughout the season, being able to assist the communications department during the days/times you choose upon starting the position.

Prerequisite: For college graduates: experience in the field of communications, public relations, and/or sportswriting. For college students: you must be majoring or minoring in communications, journalism, or public relations.

Job Title: Operations/Equipment Internship

Length of Employment: Seasonal Position, February/March – end of September (Time can be negotiated) 

Reports to: Operations Director, Operations Assistant, Coaching Staff, Athletic Trainer

Overall Responsibility:

The Operations/ Equipment intern is responsible for the assisting in the operations and logistics relating directly to the players, coaches, and team staff. He/She helps the Operations Assistant oversee the Pro Team, Reserve Team and College Academy’s equipment, travel coordination, daily trainings, game day operations.

 

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assist Operations Assistant with general practice field set up, laundering of game uniforms and practice gear, daily locker room set up and cleaning, and game day preparations.
  • Prepare Pro Team player and team equipment for travel
  • Assist in running Game Day Operations for the Pro Team, Reserve Program and College Academy as outlined in the NWSL and WPSL Manuals.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Staff, Head Coach or General Manager.
