Boston Breakers General Manager Lee Billiard talks about the current seating situation at Dilboy Stadium and when the additional 1,000 seats will be ready.
Dear Boston Breakers Supporter:
Please let me start by thanking you for your continued incredible support of our team over the years. It’s because of fans like you that the Boston Breakers continue to have the honor of being the best supported club team in women’s soccer around the world.
The inaugural 2013 NWSL Season is almost upon us, we have been working hard to build a great roster, one we believe will be challenging for a championship. Off the field we have been working hard to be more active in communities and have more of a Boston Breakers presence across the region.
As you are aware, we have made Dilboy Stadium and Somerville our home for this coming season. We have committed to adding an additional 1000 seats to the far side of the field which will provide even more of an electric atmosphere come game days. However, due to the heavy snowfall this winter and the additional snow storm in March, the soil/ground has been deemed to be unsafe to construct the seating at this current moment in time. The soil needs to be much firmer than it currently is, hopefully with spring now upon us the soil will quickly firm up.
What does this mean? Well, for the April 14th home opener the extra seating WILL NOT be available or constructed, we have done all we possibly can but unfortunately due to safety issues we cannot move forward and Mother Nature wins this battle. We fully expect seating to be constructed and available for our second home game (May 4th) and throughout the remainder of the season.
With the capacity now at 2,500 for the home opener, excluding standing room tickets, we will be looking at a sellout. I suggest you purchase your tickets as quickly as you can in order to secure a seat to what is sure to be an amazing game and experience.
