(May 7, 2015) – The Boston Breakers announced today that the club has waived Brazilian forward Ketlen.

“Unfortunately, Ketlen was having some issues with being away from her home in Brazil,” Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. “Ketlen committed herself to the Breakers and was trying to get through her homesickness. However, after multiple conversations, we concluded it would be best for Ketlen that she is allowed to return to Brazil.”

The 23-year-old from Rio Fortuna, Brazil played in one match this season for the Breakers, logging 61 minutes in a 4-1 loss to Portland Thorns FC.

“It is important that our players are comfortable in the environment here so they can focus on performing at the highest level possible,” added Billiard. “She remains a Breakers fan, and we will stay in touch with her.”

Signed Dec. 4, 2014, Ketlen came to the Breakers after playing for Brazilian club Centro Olímpico, where she won the Federação Pernambucana de Futebol in 2013. She previously played for Vittsjo in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, as well as Vitoria de Santa Antão and Santos Futebol Clube in Brazil.

On the international level, Ketlen made her senior team debut on Oct. 11, 2011, at the age of 19. It came at the Pan-American Games, where she played all 90 minutes in a 1-1 tie against Canada in the finals. Ketlen played for Brazil’s U-20 team during the 2008 and 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cups.
