(Feb. 27, 2017) – The Boston Breakers announced today the signing of midfielder Rose Lavelle. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft, Lavelle was a three-time NSCAA All-American at the University of Wisconsin. The two-time Big Ten Midfielder of the Year was one of the top scorers at Wisconsin over the past four seasons. In 84 games at Wisconsin, the 21-year-old Lavelle scored 22 goals, leading the team in scoring in 2015 and 2016.
“Of course selecting Rose at No. 1, we always knew we were going to sign her,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “She is a talented footballer with a great future ahead of her.”
The 21-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio native was recently named to the U.S. Women’s National Team’s SheBelieves Cup roster. The U.S. will play Germany March 1, England March 5, and France March 7.
Lavelle was first called into camp with the senior team in December 2015 during the Victory Tour. In 2014, Lavelle was the Golden Ball winner at the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship. She also played in the 2014 U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She attended her first U-20 Women’s National Team camp in February 2013.
“I’m super excited to join the Breakers,” Lavelle said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to grow as a player in this league, with this coaching staff, and with this team.”
