(May 3, 2017) – The Boston Breakers announced today the re-signing of goalkeeper Abby Smith. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are delighted that Abby has extended her contract at the club,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “Abby is one of the best young goalkeepers right now in the country, and she will only get better. I'm so pleased that we will see that at Boston.”
Smith, the No. 27 overall pick in the 2016 NWSL College Draft, started two games in 2016 before suffering season-ending injury. She made a total of seven saves and finished with 0.50 goals against average. She made professional debut on May 1, 2016, a 1-0 loss to Portland Thorns FC at home.
In 2017, Smith is 2-1-0, picking up her first victory and shutout on Sunday, April 23, against Sky Blue FC, and following that up with a 3-0 shutout against Seattle Reign FC on Saturday, April 29, a match in which she made a career-high six saves.
The Breakers return to Boston on Sunday, May 7, at 6 p.m. ET to take on the North Carolina Courage. Tickets are available by calling 617-945-1704 or by visiting breakerstickets.com.
