(Nov. 30, 2015) – The Boston Breakers announced that forward Stephanie McCaffrey has re-signed for the 2016 NWSL season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 22-year-old Winchester, Mass. native is coming off a tremendous rookie season for the Breakers. She finished second on the team in goals scored (3) and led the club in assists (3). McCaffrey recently earned her first cap for the U.S. Women’s National Team, scoring on her debut, a 3-1 win over Brazil on Oct. 25. Last week, she was called up to the U.S. WNT for the final four matches of the Victory Tour.

“I am delighted to be re-signing Stephanie,” Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. “We fought hard to get her in the draft because we knew what her capabilities and upside were, and she showed that in her rookie year in the NWSL, and now is showing at the national level. In my opinion, she is going to be one of the top attacking threats in this league, and I'm glad she will be doing it in a Breakers jersey.”

McCaffrey started her NWSL career on a high note, scoring in her first match, a 4-1 loss at Portland on April 11, 2015. On the season, McCaffrey started 17 of the 19 matches she appeared in for the Breakers, logging 1,418 minutes. She was voted the Boston Breakers Rookie of the Year.

The No. 5 overall selection in the 2015 NWSL College Draft by the Chicago Red Stars, McCaffrey was later acquired for Boston’s No. 9 and No 11 draft picks in the 2015 draft.

A product of Boston College, McCaffrey finished her career with the Eagles ranked fifth all-time in goals scored (32), and she became just the fourth player to score 90 or more points in program history.
