(Nov. 14, 2017) - The Boston Breakers announced today that they have re-signed defender Christen Westphal for the 2018 season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Christen was having an excellent season for us until she got injured and she was a big loss,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “She had done so well last year, and I'm delighted that she has re-signed as I feel she has a big future at Boston and in soccer.”
The 24-year-old from Brecksville, Ohio appeared in 13 games, logging 1,129 minutes for the Breakers in 2017. She tallied one assist. It came on July 15, 2017, in a 1-1 tie on the road against the Seattle Reign. In 2016 with the Breakers, Westphal started seven of the 13 matches she appeared in for a total of 579 minutes. She scored one goal.
The former University of Florida star was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NWSL College Draft by the Breakers.
“I can’t wait to continue my career in the same club where it started,” Westphal said. “I am really excited about the upcoming 2018 season.”
