Breakers look to return to winning ways Friday at home against Portland

By Aram Kaya

(May 18, 2017) – The Boston Breakers, coming of a 1-1 draw in their last game on the road against the Chicago Red Stars, return to Jordan Field in Allston, Mass., Friday for a 7 p.m. ET clash with Portland Thorns FC.

GAME NOTES

The match can be streamed on go90.com or NWSLsoccer.com.

The Thorns (2-1-2) are coming off a draw in their last away game, a 0-0 game on the road against FC Kansas City. They currently sit in third place in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) table with eight points. Forward Nadia Nadim leads the team with two goals on the year, along with midfielder Allie Long who has one goal and one assist, and forward Christine Sinclair, who has one goal. Defender Meghan Klingenberg has one assist, while goalkeeper Adrianna Franch has two shutouts.

“Portland is a game we are looking forward to,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “They are a very organized team with some world class players. But we are in good form right now, and I believe that on our day we can beat anyone. We should have come home from Chicago with all three points, but that is a learning curve for me and the team.”

The Breakers come into Friday’s match led by reigning NWSL Player of the Month, midfielder Rose Lavelle (two goals, one assist), who scored in last weekend’s match, a 1-1 draw on the road against the Chicago Red Stars. Breakers forward Natasha Dowie has two goals, and forward Adriana Leon has a goal and two assists on the year. Goalkeeper Abby Smith has registered two shutouts on the year, both coming at home.

The Breakers currently sit in fourth place in the NWSL table with seven points and a 2-2-1 record. A Breakers’ victory on Friday would see them move above Portland in the top half of the table.

Following Friday’s game, the Breakers play their next three games on the road before returning to Jordan Field to take on the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, June 24, at 4 p.m. ET. Tickets are available by calling 617-945-1704 or by visiting breakerstickets.com.
