GAME NOTES

Before returning to face the Flash for the second time in a month, last week the Breakers suffered a 3-0 loss against the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park. After falling behind, 1-0, early in the half, the Breakers delivered two solid offensive chances by Kyah Simon. Breakers keeper Libby Stout produced steady goalkeeping against Chicago’s biggest threat, Christen Press. However, Boston was unable to keep Chicago contained as the host Red Stars scored two more goals in the second half.

After this loss, the Breakers are looking to rebound and seek some revenge against Western New York after losing to the Flash, 4-0, less than a month ago. That game saw the Breakers hold a close one-goal deficit for a good portion of the game, but the Flash scored three second-half goals, two scored by Lynn Williams.

“This is a game we are looking forward to,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “Our last result at Western New York hurt us. We want to put the wrongs of that right when we play them again. Of course, it will be a tough game as they are a very good side.”

The Flash remain fourth in the NWSL table. The Flash lead the Breakers, 6-2-2, in the overall series. The matches between these two teams have proved goal-heavy with a total of 40 goals scored combined. The last win for Boston against Flash came in July 2014.

The Breakers are looking positively toward this game as three points would bump them from the bottom of the table and into a tie for ninth place with the Houston Dash.

The Breakers will visit Memorial Stadium in Seattle as they take on Seattle Reign FC Saturday, July 2, at 10 p.m. ET. Boston will then remain on the road to face the Orlando Pride the following week (Sunday, July 10, at 5 p.m. ET) before returning home July 17 (5 p.m. ET) to take on Sky Blue FC at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass.
