Boston Breakers forward Lianne Sanderson was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 7 of the 2013 NWSL season. Sanderson, 25, assisted on all three goals for the Breakers in a 3-0 victory May 25 over the Washington Spirit, setting up Heather O’Reilly in the 38th minute, Katie Schoepfer in the 53rd and Kyah Simon in the 66th.

"It’s a great honor to be named player of the week," Sanderson said. "I just want to thank all the staff at the Breakers and (Head Coach) Lisa Cole for having the confidence in me and what I can bring to the team. As long as we keep winning, that is the main thing."
The Lewisham, England native leads the NWSL with six assists – three more than any other player in the league. Though she hasn’t scored this season herself, Sanderson has assisted on more than half of Boston’s goals (6 of 11) – including the team’s last four scores. Sanderson became the first player in NWSL history to register three assists in one game.
Sanderson is the third Breakers player to be voted the NWSL Player of the Week after O’Reilly and Sydney Leroux claimed the accolade in Weeks 3 and 4, respectively.
Following Saturday’s win, O’Reilly praised Sanderson for her work on the field.
"She’s very savvy on the ball, but her runs forward are just really threatening," O’Reilly said. "She hasn’t scored yet this season, but I think everybody has seen how dangerous she is, and she’s setting everyone up with incredible goals. She’s smart. She knows the game."
The Boston Breakers will return to action Saturday, June 1, at 7 p.m. ET against Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
