Australian striker Kyah Simon scored on her Boston Breakers debut, slotting in a pass from midfielder Jessica Luscinski in the 56th minute. Simon and midfielder Amanda DaCosta had a few chances to get Boston on the scoresheet in the first half, but their efforts were thwarted by DC United keeper Didi Haracic. The Breakers had 15 shots, nine on target.

"Their goalkeeper came up with some big saves," Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said. "It was a good game. I think it was fantastic to get our jitters out. Everybody played on this trip. Everybody put on a jersey. We got to see combinations of players. We’ll work on some things on order to get better, but we were able to get two results and we got better from game to game."

Simon made a promise prior to the game. Given the 14-hour time difference from the East Coast to her home in Australia, Simon wished her mother a Happy Mother’s Day before the Breakers took the field tonight in Maryland, and she made good on her word.

"I promised her one for Mother’s Day," Simon said. "It was her request. She said, ’don’t make a promise you can’t keep.’"

The Breakers controlled possession against DC United. There were a couple lapses, but nothing the Breakers couldn’t overcome. DC United had a few good looks on goal, but rookie keeper Alice Binns came up big on two occassions to perserve her second shutout in as many games.
