Breakers acquire Nikki Washington from Houston

Trade sends Kaylyn Kyle to the Dash

April 29, 2014 - The Boston Breakers have acquired midfielder Nikki Washington from the Houston Dash in exchange for midfielder Kaylyn Kyle.

April 29, 2014 - The Boston Breakers have acquired midfielder Nikki Washington from the Houston Dash in exchange for midfielder Kaylyn Kyle.

Washington, who played for the Breakers in 2011, has started all three games for Houston this season, registering 248 minutes. In 2013, Washington scored one goal and tallied two assists for the NWSL champions Portland Thorns FC. She made 11 appearances, including 10 starts.

“We are excited to be bringing Nikki to Boston. We know what she brings as a player, and we know she can make an immediate impact for us,” Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said.  “The Breakers organization would like to thank Kaylyn for her contributions, and we wish her all the best in Houston.”

Washington last appeared for the Breakers during the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) season. She played in five matches with Boston before getting traded to magicJack, where she played in 14 games (nine starts). Washington was drafted fifth overall by the Los Angeles Sol in the 2010 WPS Draft.

Washington played in the Westfield W-League in Australia in 2012, scoring three goals in five games for Canberra United. She also made 11 appearances (10 starts) for the Pali Blues of the USL W-League.

Returning to the Breakers, the 25-year-old from Mesquite, Texas is reunited with Breakers keeper Alyssa Naeher, who were teammates on the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup U.S. team that won gold.

Kyle appeared in two games (two starts) for the Breakers this season. She played 155 minutes.
