(Feb. 9, 2017) – The Boston Breakers announced today the signing of midfielder Tiffany Weimer, pending receipt of her International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Weimer, 33, most recently played for Kvarnsveden in Sweden’s top-flight league Damallsvenskan. She played in 10 matches for Kvarnsveden, scoring five goals in 900 minutes of action.
No stranger to the Breakers, Weimer played eight games for Boston during the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) season. In the NWSL, Weimer has played for Portland (2013), Washington (2015), and FC Kansas City (2016). In three NWSL seasons, Weimer has logged 577 minutes, played in 18 matches, and scored one goal to go along with one assist. Both came during the 2013 season with Portland, a year in which Weimer and the Thorns won the first-ever NWSL Championship.
“I’ve had some great conversations with Tiffany, and she’s hungry to come back to Boston and the NWSL,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “She’s gone away and had a great season in Sweden, and she will be another great addition to our team. She is a technically gifted player with a good soccer brain, and I’m looking forward to bringing Tiffany back to the Boston Breakers.”
The North Haven, Conn. native has taken her talents overseas throughout the years, playing for Fortuna Hjørring in Denmark, AIK in Sweden, Aland United in Finland, and Santos FC in Brazil. She began her professional career in the United States in 2009, when she was drafted by FC Gold Pride in WPS. The No. 17 overall pick in the 2009 WPS Draft, Weimer played in 15 games, scoring one goal and tallying three assists.
A standout at Penn State, Weimer scored 91 goals in 97 games for the Nittany Lions. In 2004, she was MAC Hermann Trophy runner-up.
