Breakers sign Swedish defender-midfielder Lotta kvist

(Oct. 31, 2017) - The Boston Breakers announced today that they have signed Swedish defender/midfielder Lotta Ökvist for the 2018 season, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

“Lotta is a very technically gifted player with a wonderful left foot,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “She is a versatile player, who plays in defense and attack and will be a great addition to our roster.”

The 20-year-old Piteå, Sweden native most recently played for Piteå IF in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, appearing in 25 games during the 2016/2017 season. Ökvist played part of 2016 with Umea (11 games), and from 2009-2015, played in 27 games for Piteå.

“I’m really excited to play in the NWSL, and I’m thankful I got the opportunity to play with the Boston Breakers,” Ökvist said. “I have a really good impression of the club, from the coach to the medical staff, the team, the whole organization, everyone seems really professional. I am a team player and a fighter. I love to win, so I will always give 100 percent for my team. I hope the fans come out and support us next season and help us reach our goal of making the playoffs.”

A member of Sweden’s U-19 and U-17 women’s national teams, Ökvist debuted for the U-17s on Aug. 2, 2013, a 3-0 win vs. Portugal. She played in the UEFA U-17 and U-19 Women’s Championships, helping Sweden to the U-19 UEFA title in 2015/2016.
